Who's Got the Button?
We need your help
canvassing the area, posting flyers or leaving them door-to-door, talking with
people, and all the while keeping an eye out for Button.
If you plan to join us for the Search Party
this Saturday (2/7), please email me (billbr@spro.net) and include your cell phone number if
you have one. That way we’ll have a good estimate of the
number of people to expect. But even if you don't send
email, you're welcome to join us -- your participation is greatly appreciated!
Who: Any and every able-bodied person.
Please forward this to anyone you think may be able to help out.
What: An 'all-hands on deck' effort to find Button, one of the KC
Rescue Basenjis who is lost, and to distribute and post flyers in the area
where she was last seen.

gathering for a possible follow-up story!
A great turn-out would be a wonderful way to show the strength of our
community and our commitment to the breed.

An extra leash and collar she can't back out of
(just in case we can actually catch her!)

20 or 30 copies of the flyer, which you can

Some Background:
Button is no
ordinary dog. She is one of the 160 dogs rescued from
the home of a
You may recall
that the KC dogs, nearly all of them purebred Basenjis, lived confined in
crates for months on end, living in their own filth in a house without
electricity. Button and five other Basenjis were
transported to foster homes in the
Button first
headed down the Burke-Gilman Trail so we focused our initial efforts in that
area, posting flyers and walking it many times over hoping to at least catch a
glimpse of her. Despite everything, we came up empty
handed. On Tuesday evening we got a break – the

Because of her isolation, Button had
little contact with humans. She is extremely shy and
skittish, terrified by people and any sudden gestures or loud noises. It is unlikely that she will approach someone who calls to
her. Anyone who spots her should not try to capture her, but instead should report the time and location
to the Button Search Party Central Command Post.
